The award is granted on performance of the environment management systems, waste management, water management & energy management. Green Hospitality Award participants are audited by external auditors who examine the overall commitment of the tourism industry on a yearly basis. This prestigious honour is awarded with the objective of stimulating the adoption of good environmental practice through innovative environmental management.

Mr. Michael Kitt, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government presented the awards and expressed the importance & benefits to the hospitality industry including the possibility of reducing waste going to landfill by 50%, reducing water consumption by 50% and reducing energy consumption by up to 30% all of which impact positively on the bottom line as well as on the environment. The programme helps by increasing efficiency operationally aiding the tourism industry to streamline their businesses practices effectively.
