The origins of University College Dublin (UCD) date back to the Catholic University of Ireland which was founded in the mid-nineteenth century by Paul Cullen and John Henry Newman. For over 150 years, UCD has produced graduates of remarkable distinction including famous surgeons, architects, entrepreneurs and five of Ireland’s Taoisigh (Prime Ministers). Perhaps the best known of all its graduates is the writer James Joyce, who completed his Bachelor of Arts at the university in 1902. Established in 1854, the university played a key role in the history of the modern Irish State and today it plays a leading part in shaping Ireland’s future.
Its 50 meter pool opened in June 2012. The revolutionary design and mechanics allow the pool depth to change to accomodate swimmers from all levels of experience. With dedicated 50 meter slow, medium and fast paced lanes and a huge family area, there is something for everyone. For more info visit http://www.ucd.ie/sport/
